New range: the Coconuts!

Reaching the top of palm trees has always been your dream, but it’s too risky for you?

You would rather reach the ceiling of your climbing gym with ease? (Coconut trees can grow up to 25 m high!)

It’s time to put on your climbing shoes and harness to test out the new range of Expression Holds for 2021: COCONUTS!

Come discover a new way of climbing without racking your brain.

A range made for junior / intermediate levels

We all want to climb those holds used in championships and do as the fiery Mejdi Schalck during the IFSC World Cup of Salt Lake City 2021…

But you know what?

Mejdi started on good old jugs, like everyone else.

Knowing the basics, after all, is also important.

We could prove our point with the Gaussian distribution, but we wouldn’t want to bore you, right?

So, to make it short, all climbers start with comfortable grips.

Easy routes and boulders represent at least the majority of climbing lines in climbing gyms.

Ironically, setting easy routes and boulders can turn out to be quite difficult and the choice of holds can be just as hard.

Setters often have to choose between:

Setting handles / ladders

Using old jugs, with   questionable usability.

(Here the Tex set of Expression Holds ... released in 2003!

Using cute - but not really interesting in terms of technics - holds for kids, shaped as elephants, giraffes and worms.

Novice climber also means child climber, but it’s not always the case! It’s a sport for young and old which requires adapted holds for all grades, for all novice climbers, or other climbers seeking perfection, whether they are 2 or 119 years old.

Why 'Coconuts'?

Why did we name this range Coconuts? Well, because coconuts are delicious!!

And because Doron, the shaper of the Coconuts range, started to carve and polish small holes into the holds with his dremel tool to give them a « funky / tasty » aspect.

And don’t three little holes remind you of a certain, delicious fruit??

A perfect and complete range to set all kinds of routes

The shaping process focused on the usability and design of the holds, giving them soft grips to learn climbing without ever tiring.

The range is entirely made of polyester (PE).

The new Coconuts Jugs L2 set

A wide variety of 140 jugs of all sizes ...

All setters know what a jug is: it’s a very positive hold that doesn’t require much force to hold the grip…and you will find them in all climbing gyms.

In the Coconuts range, you will find a wide variety of 140 jugs of all sizes, from mini jugs you can grasp with 2 or 3 fingers, to big roof jugs you can hold on to with your two hands.

... and a hundred other climbing holds with different grips to complete the range

You will also find some crimps, pinches, incut edges…all with varying grips.

Coconuts’ Round Edges sets allow climbers to get acquainted with the edges’ grips before going for less « soft » edges than those in the Coconuts range

(like the Pro Models Edges of Romain Desgranges, for example).

As with the ranges Boulder, Desert Point, Bleau and Impulse, we added a Big Foot set in the Coconuts range.

These large foot holds are perfect and important for climbers learning how to place their feet, and they also allow as many people as possible to climb with large feet without necessarily using climbing shoes, because, well, climbing with trainers is awesome too!

SOME FUN FACTS ON COCONUTS:

  • Did you know that not all coconuts are round? Now you do.
  • Did you know that the sea coconut, the biggest coconut in the world, can weigh up to 22 kgs? Now you do.
  • Did you know that around 150 people die of a falling coconut per year? It’s ten times more than sharks but 3 times less than deaths due to hippos!
