BACK TO THE COMPETITION… IN THE MOST MAGNIFICENT SURROUNDINGS

THE BIG DAY IS DRAWING CLOSER. The Mont-Blanc Marathon's over and, while we wait for the UTMB trail-running event, the traditional climbing “neighbourhood party” taking place on the Mont-Blanc square is about to liven up Chamonix’s streets again.

Starting in a week’s time, the IFSC Climbing World Cup should soon resonate again in the Mont-Blanc valley.

In a coverage made by Intérieur Sport on Kilian Jornet, former Chamoniard with an expanded track record in alpine skiing and skyrunning, the speaker said those words that have stayed in my mind ever since:

« If mountain sports are a myth,

then Chamonix is their sanctum ».

We can clearly see the extent of this statement when, in front of the wall of the Lead Climbing World Cup, we look up at the sky to reach the peak of the climbing wall, all the while having the impressive Aiguilles Rouges as backdrop and the Mont-Blanc as background.

THE BEST CLIMBERS ARE HERE

After a year of near absence of World Cup, it was time for the competition to come back for the essential step of the calendar: the Chamonix Lead Climbing World Cup. But even with the best setting, if the casting is not great, the result will be disappointing.

BUT rest assured, you won’t be disappointed (Kubrick and Lucas would be jealous!). We can count on the participation of:

NATALIA GROSSMAN, ASHIMA SHIRAISHI, MOLLY THOMPSON-SMITH, JULIA CHANOURDIE, ORIANE BERTONE, JESSICA PILZ, JANJA GARNBRET, NATSUKI TANII, LUCKA RAKOVEC...

The winners of the 2019 Lead Climbing World Cup will not participate this time. It is a good opportunity for the finalists of 2019 and climbers in general to get even.

After two years without climbing competitions, lengthy physical preparation and new holds and volumes, we should have a high-level 2021 Lead Climbing World Cup!  

LET’S GO BACK TO THE WOMEN’S LEAD FINAL OF THE 2019 CHAMONIX LEAD CLIMBING WORLD CUP

In 2019, Adam Ondra and Chaehyun Seo won at the end of two exhilarating finals.

Up to 15.000 persons were gathered in front of the lead climbing wall to encourage the best climbers.

The women’s lead final, fully furnished by Expression Holds, met the expectations with a remarkable move on the steep wall created thanks to the Boulder Legend Magic Holes.
